Robert L. Smith Sr.

Robert L Smith, Sr., 84, of Hebron died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 while in the company of family members at his residence. Robert was born in Hebron, IL on January 22, 1927, the son of the late Albert C. and Laura (May) Smith. He was married to Phyllis Rae Trimble on December 2, 1944 in Hebron and they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary December 2, 2010 with a trip to Tunica, Mississippi. Bob owned and operated Robert L. Smith Construction, as a building contractor, for many years in the McHenry Country area, retiring in 1988. He was a respected business man and was known for his work ethic, his honesty, integrity, and great sense of humor. He was one of the founding members of the Hebron Little League where he coached for over ten years. He served in the U.S. Army Military Police as a PFC in WW II and was stationed in Germany. He married Phyllis Rae Trimble on December 2, 1944 in Hebron, IL. Robert is survived by two daughters; Peggy R. Smith Pichelman (Franklin) of Wayzata, MN, and Candace Benner (Dean Lederman) of Juda, WI; two sons Robert L. (Audrey) Smith Jr. of Greenwood, IL, Larry W. (Karen) Smith of Harvard, IL. Robert is also survived by seven grandchildren: Douglas Losee (Tamara), Shelly Losee, Sarah Smith (Emille), Amy Simmer (Brian), Joseph Benner, Beau Benner, Cassandra Benner; seven step-grandchildren; Heather Pichelman Helmstetter (Fred), Keith Pichelman, KevinPichelman, Garrett Lederman, Jim Kacena, Valeria Benner, Katey Benner Hajos (Matt); four great-grandchildren: Courtney Losee, Katelyn Losee, Chase Losee, Anya Zimmer; two sisters, June Haines (Lee) of Mims, FL and Alice Johnson (Gordon) of Hebron, IL and brother Donald Smith (Margaret) Burlington, WI; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded by three brothers; James, Albert Jr. and Gust Smith. He was a beloved husband, father and friend and will be deeply missed. The family wishes to thank Centegra Hospital nurses and doctors. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rao and Dr. Raju for all their dedication the past many years for helping Bob Smith live longer and have a higher quality of life. Visitation will be 4:30 to 7:30 pm.
