Harvey H. Petska Sr.

Harvey H. Petska, Sr., 89, of Spring Grove, IL died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at his home while in the company of family members. Harvey was born in Jim Falls, WI on August 22, 1921, the son of the late Alfred and Margaret (Koeing) Petska. He was married to Lillian Braden on September 12, 1945 in Cornell, WI and she died Sept. 19, 1986. He was employed as a superintendent at Thelen Sand & Gravel in Antioch, IL, for 38 years retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church Spring Grove. He was a member of the Spring Grove Fire Dept. for over 20 years and served as chief. He also served as Chief of Police of Spring Grove for 14 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and fixing things for people. He served in the U.S. Army as a PFC in WW II from Aug. 1942 to Sept. 1943. Harvey is survived by two daughters, Waudenia Bastie of Bruce, WI, Elaine (Andy) McGinnis of Spring Grove, IL; two sons Charles (Donna) Petska of Richmond, IL, Harvey (Lois) Petska of Spring Grove, IL; seven grandchildren Christopher Petska, Stacy (Andy) Vogt, Jenny Bastie, Joseph McGinnis, Christine Hall, Richard (Stephanie) Petska, Nicholas Petska, seven great grandchildren Nathan and Morgan Vogt, Blaine and Bryce Bastie, Dakota and Katlyn Hall and Owen Petska; two sisters, Rose (Ray) Wawrzyniak of Ladysmith, WI; Kay Smith of Spring Grove, IL; three brothers, Kenneth (Shirley) Petska of Sheldon, WI; Thomas (Darlene) Petska of Tomah, WI; Bruce Petska of Effingham, IL. He was preceded by a daughter Kathleen Petska, a son Harvey Allen Petska, a granddaughter Melissa Petska, a great grandson Braden Petska, son-in-law Paul Bastie, brother-in-law Leo Smith, two sisters, Dorothy Hatfield and Margaret 'Sheila' Paddock, six brothers Wilford, David, Alfred Jr., Raymond, Francis and Rodger. Visitation will be 3 to 7 pm Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Ehorn-Adams Funeral Home 10011 Main St Richmond, IL. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, March 14, 2011 at Borton-Leiser Funeral Home, Cornell, WI. Interment will be in Cornell Cemetery in Cornell, WI with military honors.
